RAMAYANA MASAM-KARKIDAKA MASAM

     The Ramayana masacharanam (observance or Ramayana month) starts on the 1st day of Malayalam month of Karkidakam and continues for a month.      At the end of the Ramayana masam "Ashtadravya Maha Ganapathi Homam" with 108 coconuts will be performed in the temple

MANDALAPOOJA

     Mandalapooja begins on the first of the Malayalam month Vrischikam (Sagittarius)-November-December months and concludes on Makarasankranthi,the day believed to be the birthday of Lord Ayyappa.     During this period, devotees trek to the famous shrine of the Sree Ayyappa - Sabarimala atop the rugged hills on the Western Ghats. Ayyappan vilakku: In the temple during the Mandalapooja, Ayyappan Vilakku is performed with varieties of poojas and functions. 

ASHTAMI ROHINI

    Ashtami Rohini, the birth day of Lord Krishna (Akaparambappan), the main deity of the temple, is celeberated in the Malayalam month of Chingam (August - September) under the fourth lunar asterism or Rohini Nakshatram.     On this day, the temple will be  festooned  with oil lamps and the festivals would continue till early hours of morning. There will be "Akhandanamajapam" (continuously repeating the name of lord Krishna as "Ohm Namo Narayanaya") from 6 AM to 12 midnight.      "Appam and Palpayasam" are the important offerings on this day. "Prasada ootu" (divine feast) also will be arranged to all devotees. 

NAVARATHRI

The festival is celebrated during the first nine days in the bright half of Aswina namely September-October. Special poojas and Bhajans are performed in the specially decorated mandapam of "LORD SARASWATHI".. The last three days of Navarathari viz. Durgastami, Mahanavami and Vijayadasami are considered more sacred. On Durgastami day -a ceremony called POOJAVAIPU - is performed in the evening. Students and elders bring their books and holly books and placed in the Sarawathy mandapam. On the Vijayadasami day after performing pooja, the books etc are taken back. This function is also called as "pooja eduppu". At this auspicious moment, small children are given instructions to write the first few alphabets on rice or sand. This is called "EZHUTHINIRUTHU" AND "VIDYARAMBHAM".

THIRU UTSAVAM (Annual Festival)

Thiru Utsavam of the temple lasts for eight days. The Utsav starts with flag hoisting on Chothy Nakshatram in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December - January). The festival ends with Aarattu (ceremonial bathing of the idol) on the 8th day on Thiruvonam Nakshethram. During festival days, for the restoration of Chaithanya (life-force) of the deity, number of poojas like Brahmakalasam, Sudarshana homam etc., will be performed. Utsava Bali is one of the main ritual in the Thiruvulsavam. Utsava Bali is performed by placing the Lord (Thidambu) on a special mandapam (ceremonial stage). To have a darshan (glimpse) of the ulsava bali is considered very auspicious and a large number of devotees would throng at the site to witness it. There will be Annadanam/Prasada Oottu (special feast) on Utsava Bali and on Arattu day. Kalam ezhuthupattu is another important ritual in the Bhagawathy shrine. This is a marvelous sight and a huge number of devotees present at this ritual for getting the blessing of the Bhagavathy. Ayilya Pooja: During the festival days Naga pooja and feeding of serpents (nagas) are performed. The darshan of this ritual brings welfare to the whole members of the family. Valiyavilakku: This is another important function during the Utsav. Bhagawan Sree Krishna will travel on this day on Elephant known as Thidambu Ezunallippu accompanied by panchavadyam/chendamelam/Nadaswaram etc. The specialty of the festival is that like Guruvayoor Temple, there will be no accompanying fire works during the annual festival because the deity is in the infant stage. During the Utsavam days the entire temple will be decorated with festoons, brilliantly illuminated and all the nearby places will also be in the festive mood. There will be various cultural programs during the festival, mainly related to temple arts.

PRATHISTA DINAM

  Prathista Dinam is celebrated on Punartham Nakshethram in the Malayalam month of Kumbam (February-March).

VISHU

 Vishu is celebrated on 1st of Medam (Malayalam month) - April).
